A doodle a day – The Conclusion

Posted in Doodle A Day | Comments Off

This is it the end, the finale, the concluding part of my 'A Doodle A Day for 30 Days' series and hasn't time flown by? Over the last few weeks and I have seen myself experiment with different styles, sketches, techniques and create numerous different characters, a few backgrounds, some patterns and designs - all of which I don't tend to get time to usually do within my day job. What have I learnt? This trial has taught me many things, including that sometimes it's hard to stick...

Day Thirty A tiger and his shadow So today is the finale of my  'A Doodle A Day For 30 Days' series. This will be my final doodle in this series, however I will be concluding it tomorrow with a summation of what I have learned, enjoyed, not enjoyed and what it has inspired me to do, so don't forget to head back tomorrow to find out the results. But for now here is today's doodle. Seeing as I have created a lot of characters in the past...

Day Twenty Nine Introducing Wolfenmeister Today I created a new character and decided to call him Wolfenmeister. Not sure exactly why, but he does resemble a wolf. You may notice that the style is similar to a few of my other doodles you would have seen in this series but this one also has a logo feel about it. I tend to like creating characters with bold black outlines and detail which I use to enhance the characters features and personality. As you can see in the doodle he...

Day Twenty Eight A typographical doodle Today I have tried to combine typography with patterns. You may hove noticed that I have come to like the criss cross wire fence type pattern which I've used in previous doodles, so I decided to take that pattern and combine it with typography in order to create a different style. To quickly get underway I selected the common font type 'Helvetica Neue' and used that as a base for the doodle. Once I had resized it and set the tracking...

A doodle a day – Day Twenty Seven

Day Twenty Seven A Womans portrait So today's doodle is a little late, apologies for that, it's been a busy busy weekend. Anyways I managed to get some time to try something different and chose to create something a little more true to life but in a style I have become accustomed to. So instead of my usual characters and creatures I turned to creating a head of a woman. The thick black outlines define the figure and her main features. I gave here a slightly tanned look...

Day Twenty Six Rodent Grenade Today's doodle revisits the same style as a few characters that you might have seen first off at the very beginning of this series. This time I tried to add a little more character and emotion into it. As you can probably tell this little beaver is looking slightly worried, and for good reasons. Wouldn't you be if you were a walking talking grenade which was about to explode? I know I would. I used a very familiar style of eyes, teeth and...

Day Twenty Five From the depths of insanity and back again As I enjoyed creating yesterday's doodle so much I decided to put pencil to paper again and this time just let my imagination wander and take me on a journey. This lead me to creating the extremely weird creature that you see above. You may have noticed today's sketch is a little larger than usual. This is because, if I had kept to the same size as all the other posts in this series, then you...

Day Twenty Four Brain Juice - Get those creative juices flowing So today I actually found it quite hard to come up with something for the daily doodle. I took a little while to think and in desperation started imagining what it would be like if there was some magical juice that could increase my creativeness just by drinking a little each day. Wouldn't that be awesome? Instant creative release. And from that little seed, out came today's doodle, a brain in a glass container. How does it...

Day Twenty Three Octopussy - Mixed animal illustration Today I decided to move away from my normal character creation of using just a single animal or creature for my inspiration and decided to mix it up a little. I would like to introduce you today to Octopussy, an eight legged cat with the body and legs of an octopus but the facial features and ears of a cute cat. Usually I try to add some depth to my characters by adding some shading and highlights, today I decided...

Day Twenty Two Geometric shapes and patterns Today's doodle came about a little differently. Usually I sketch my doodle first and if I have enough time I clean it up and add a little colour using Illustrator. As I already had Illustrator open I skipped the sketching stage and started playing around directly in it. I created  a few regular shapes, some circles, rectangles and triangles those sorts of things and started to move them around to see what sort of patterns and designs I could make...
